My three favorite movies adapted from Stephen King novels

My name is John Eilermann, and I’ve been studying and working here in St. Louis, MO. I have a passion for literature. For this article, I want to talk about my favorite film adaptations of Stephen King novels.

We all know just how prolific Mr. King is, however, not all movie adaptations of his books are good. Some are downright garbage, even with brilliant source material. On that note, here are three of our favorite adaptations.

The Shawshank Redemption

“The Shawshank Redemption” is a masterpiece of storytelling, which translated perfectly onto the big screen. At the story’s core is a heavy heart that has been beaten for decades, making the payoff all too worth it. The film has received critical praise and has been called one of the best movies of all time.

Misery

Another work in the John Eilermann Must-Read list is “Misery,” a terrifying novel about fanaticism. I’ve tried to convince friends here in St. Louis to read it, and many complain about not being able to sleep at night. The film is just as good with unforgettable and award-winning performances from James Caan and Kathy Bates.

Silver Bullet

Adapted from King’s “Cycle of the Werewolf,” “Silver Bullet” is in my opinion, a more frightening take on the story. While the special effects leave much to be desired, there is an ominous tone throughout the film that fills viewers with terror. And that plot twist? That was a doozy.

Hi! John Eilermann is the name. I’m a comparative literature student from St. Louis, Missouri, and I’m enjoying my life here. For similar reads, visit this blog.
